Information from international courses - Short courses SETAC 2012; Course Particles and Health

Young scientists and Ph.D. students from the Research Centre of Toxic Compounds in the Environment participated in the SETAC World Congress in May 2012 in Berlin, Germany ( The main congress topic was "Securing a sustainable future: Integrating science, policy and people". Prior to the conference opening ceremonial, a number of special 'Short courses' on various topics were organized. Four young scientist from the Research Centre were supported by RECETOX NETWORKING project to participate in the courses. Dr. Kateřina Nováková and Dr. Radka Zounková informed about the courses on the seminar on 14th June 2012.  Dr. Michal Bittner and Soňa Jesenská, M.Sc. informed about their participation in the courses on the seminar on 18th June 2012. Dr. Michal Bittner presented the key points of the course "Passive dosing of hydrophobic organic chemicals - improved experimental control of freely dissolved concentrations in toxicity, bioconcentration and binding studies". Soňa Jesenská, M.Sc. informed the Research Centre audience about the course "Statistical Methods in Ecotoxicology Using R".

Dr. Jiří Novák and Pavel Piler, M.Sc. participated in the course "Particles and Health" in March/April 2012 in METALUND, Centre for Medicine and Technology for Working Life and Society, Sweden. Several topics were discussed in the course: atmosferic aerosols in outdoor and indoor environment, nanoparticles, biomarkers, particle-protein interaction, aerosol characteristics and measurement, physiology of the pulmonary and cardiovascular system, toxicology and epidemiology, air pollution connected diseases etc.
